THE CITY CHANNEL Live Webcast The City Channel, the city of Cupertino's government access television channel (Comcast Cable Channel 26 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99), was the first government channel to begin operations in Santa Clara County. Established in 1982, the city's video department began televising city council and planning commission meetings in January 1983. Since then, the channel has grown into a vital information resource for the community, providing Cupertino residents with a wide variety of locally produced and acquired programming. The City Channel offers a unique program format that combines local and state government coverage, as well as top-quality educational programming for teachers and students (available weekday mornings and afternoons). Local city meeting coverage includes regular telecasts of City Council, Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation meetings. These meetings are televised live and repeated several times during the course of the week. State programming is offered via The California Channel, a satellite network that is broadcast late weekday evenings. Programming includes same-day coverage of state legislative floor debates, committee hearings, press conferences and public affairs programs. Local Cupertino programming includes a regular schedule of press conferences, town hall forums, special meetings, awards programs, groundbreaking ceremonies, and other community-related events. These programs are repeated several times during the month in order accommodate the greatest viewing audience possible. Special televised events include the Mayor's State of the City Address, the CREST Awards (Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps Taken), the City Council Swearing-In Ceremony, and comprehensive city council election programming. Residents with Internet connections can view Cupertino city meetings and other programs both live and on-demand. Webcasting of city meetings and other events is now presented in both the Windows Media and Flash formats and is encoded to accommodate both dial-up and broadband viewers. MP3 audio files and MP4 video files of meetings and programs are also available as podcasts. With our Granicus MediaManager system , documents such as staff reports, agendas, and minutes are linked and cross-referenced to the video archives of city meetings, thus providing a simple and integrated solution for accessing public records. The Cupertino City Channel is now broadcasting on AT&T U-verse Channel 99. AT&T U-verse has been available in Cupertino since March 2007 and local PEG channels have been available since December 2007. Customers who subscribe to U-verse can now tune to Channel 99 to view the Cupertino City Channel and other access channels from throughout the Bay Area.
